RFoF Link Calculator

RFOptic’s offers its online RFoF Link Calculator to simulate the RFoF link budget performances including:  link gain, IP1dBc, NF and SNR along with optical parameters for all RFOptic’s RFoF product lines.

This optical RF link budget simulator is able to simulate all RFOptic standard RFoF link series with all their applicable options. It can simulate the Programmable series of links covering signal frequencies from 1MHz up to 2.5GHz, 3GHz, 4GHz, and 6GHz. It also simulates the 500MHz to 8GHz programmable links, the Ultra series operating from 20MHz to 12GHz, 18GHz or 20GHz and the HSFDR series that transmits signal frequencies from 100MHz to 12GHz, 18GHz, 20GHz, 30GHz 40GHz and 67GHz.

The simulator estimates the RFoF link performance and the output signal properties for a given input signal and SNR requirements. Setup the link configuration as applicable with the Programmable series built-in LNA and attenuators or for the Ultra and HSFDR series select a pre-amplifier and post-amplifier that provide the performance which meets the expected optical losses and optical RF link budget requirements.

Link budget refers to the range of input and output signal for linear operation, output noise, signal to noise ratio (SNR). Taken together these properties define the performance and dynamic range at the output of the RFoF receiver (Rx) . the link budget simulation accounts for all gains and losses from the transmitter (Tx) input to the receiver (Rx) output. The RFoF link budget helps engineers design systems and verify that their design will meet or exceed application requirements.
