RFOptic’s offers its online RFoF Link Gain Calculator to simulate the RFoF link budget performances including: link gain, IP1dBc, NF and SNR along with optical parameters for RFOptic’s RFoF programmable product line.
This optical RF link budget simulator is designed for the programmable RFoF family – 2.5GHz, 3GHz, 4GHz, and 6GHz. The simulator allows users of our programmable RFoF products to evaluate and determine the most optimal configuration of the built-in LNA and attenuators such that the target RF performance is achieved given the optical loss budget and optical RF link budget requirements.
A link budget refers to calculating the power received at the receiver (Rx). It accounts for all gains and losses from the transmitter (Tx) to the point of arriving at the receiver. The calculation includes losses from cables, fibers, and other components in the Tx/Rx chain, gains from e,g., the antenna or amplifiers, and propagation loss when traveling through air or another medium.
The link budget helps engineers to design systems based on the required sensitivity of a receiver at a particular distance.
