RFOptic and its North American partner, Summit Communications Solutions are proud to announce the 100th Deployment of their Programmable RF Over Fiber (RFoF) Link. Through RFoF link’s Windows based GUI users can adjust S21 System Gain, P1dB Compression Point and Noise Figure parameters. By turning on or off its internal Low Noise Amplifiers (LNA) and adjusting the built-in attenuator users can achieve system gain levels between 0 to 40 dB and Noise Figure as low as 5 dB.
Various models of the RFoF modules operate from 0.5 MHz (500 KHz) up to 2.5 GHz, 3 GHz, or 6 GHz. Customers have been using these links to transport UHF, VHF, GPS, L-Band, S-Band and lower portion of the C-Band RF signals. The low frequency start point enables these links to carry 10 MHz satellite reference signal and other signals close to DC.
These Rx and TX modules have built-in diagnostic capability. The embedded Radio Frequency and Optical meters can measure the power levels to identify any potential issues on the fiber link. Furthermore, the units can self-inject a small RF signal to perform an end-to-end test.
Tx and Rx modules’ small size 2.8”x2.8”x0.9” and light weight create many flexible deployment options. While some customers take advantage of the drill holes to attach them on panels, many simply connect them using Velcro. Further, to provide deployment flexibility various enclosures are also available. IP-54 rated outdoor enclosure can house up to 2 (Tx or Rx) modules. 1U and 2U rack mountable enclosures can house up to 4 or 8 modules respectively.
Due to low power consumption cooling is not required. The modules can be fed using simple 5V to 12V AC/DC adapters or even with batteries. The connection to the computer is done through the popular USB interface. The laser wavelength can be 1310nm or 1550nm based on customer requirements. Dr. Avner Sharon RFOptic, CEO and CTO said, “We have explored long term customer needs and developed a solution that can be tailored based on customer needs. Since the fiber technology is tricky, our RFoF Solutions provide a customizable solution with maximum flexibility to the customer during field deployment. Our team is very excited about this solution’s market acceptance and success”
