RF over Fiber multichannel solutions with multilinks
RFOptic provides state-of-the-art RF over Fiber multichannel solutions with multilinks from 1 MHz to 67GHz.
Our multilink solutions are suitable for satellite applications where several links are required to handle independent communication channels, remote antenna arrays that receive or transmit through several antennas, and radio telescope applications with mixed transmitters and receivers servicing different bands. Multilink solutions include automatic handover upon failure redundant RFoF links and systems with Ethernet over fiber (IFL), TTL over fiber, and many other configurations, which may include optical multiplexers, amplifiers, and splitters as well as their RF counterparts. Some multilink solutions may be configured to deliver time-of-arrival matched links as well as phase-matched links.
A user-friendly RFoF software enables adjustment of the RF and Optical parameters, such as link gain, Noise Figure, P1dB, Optical power, LED indication, and module information, either locally over a USB connection or remotely using an Ethernet connection and a webserver interface. An API is available for embedded applications for both Monitoring and Control interfaces.
Furthermore, the RFoF link has full diagnostic capability, including Tx, Rx, and complete link testing (Optical and RF). These features save the cost of test equipment and provide real-time diagnostics of any deployed link.
CLOSURE OPTIONS FOR MULTILINK SOLUTIONS
1UR and 2UR 19” rack mountable indoor enclosures
Features include 4 and 8 hot-swappable RFoF module bays. These enclosures are compatible with RFoF programmable or RFoF Ultra series modules as well as RFoF HSFDR modules, one module each per bay. This enclosure is reconfigurable by the customer, and desired types of modules or faulty modules can be replaced easily.
1UG 19” rack mountable indoor enclosures
These units can be factory-configured and customized. They can support up to 8 RFoF programmable or RFoF Ultra series modules or 5 RFoF HSFDR modules as well as some combinations of these. Along the RFoF modules these enclosures may include optical and RF amplifiers, power combiners/splitters, multiplexers, switches, and other components.
Outdoor enclosures
Different sizes of outdoor enclosures with an optical MPO connector. These include AC and DC powered varieties of SOD – Small outdoor enclosure with 4 RF ports, BOD – big outdoor enclosure with up to 8 RF ports and 10 RF ports available in the EBOD enclosures with 4 RF ports, BOD – big outdoor enclosure with up to 8 RF ports and 10 RF ports available in the EBOD enclosure.
2UHD 19” rack mountable enclosures
These enclosures feature 5 drawer bays, each of which can contain up to 8 unidirectional links or 4 bidirectional terminals using any RFoF programmable and RFoF Ultra modules. Such enclosures are typically used where massive numbers of wideband RFoF links are required such as for 5G testing facilities. Up to 40 transmitters and/or receivers or 20 bidirectional terminals can be supported by a one such enclosure.
Very compact OEM and custom enclosures
These enclosures are designed for 1 or 2 transmitters and/or receivers.
RFOptic’s enclosures are chosen according to available space/environmental conditions, maintenance parameters, and customer needs. All RFOptic subsystem solutions can be managed/monitored locally (by USB) or remotely by RFOptic’s HTML/SNMP/REST Management & Control application.
RFoF MULTICHANNL APPLICATIONS
Our multilink solutions are suitable for satellite and mission-critical applications where one or more redundant links are configured for automatic handover upon failure. If one of the main channels fails, the RFoF system switches to a standby RFoF link. The system can be provided with automatic level control to compensate for input signal level variations and operate in this ALC mode for CW, 5G FDD, and TDD signals. Other applications include extending coverage of 2-way radio systems into areas with poor over-the-air coverage.

RFOptic’s optical RF Monitor and Control software is designed to manage, monitor, and control RF over Fiber converters and RFoF systems locally or remotely.
These optical fiber control and monitor capabilities reduce the daily maintenance expense, allowing maintenance personnel to perform diagnostic tests and calibration in the field without special test equipment, and to locate faults and problems in the optical and RF domains.
All fiber optic management systems are user-friendly, intuitive, and easy to operate. Detailed information can be found in the help and manuals of the management software.
RFOptic’s Optical RF Monitor & Control is available using USB interface for local management and over Ethernet connection for remote management. Both M&C systems enable changes to operating parameters and provide status details for all RFOptic’s RFoF products.
